Julie lives on a beautiful lake in northern Minnesota. She is an accomplished
wood carver, calligrapher, seamstress, quilt designer, teacher, and author.
Her kids and grandkids have come to know Julie as someone who always has
fun projects to make. They lovingly call Grama and Grampa's house "Camp Swampy."
Julie earned a blue ribbon at the Itasca County Fair on her first quilt 25 years
ago and is still sewing award-winning quilts. She started to publish and sell quilt patterns as "Hugs & Stitches"
when she realized that her quilts were unique and other people would enjoy sewing them.
Julie is definitely a person who "colors outside the lines!" She thoroughly enjoys
finding new, easier ways to do things. That is what brought her to writing her first book, Seams Easy.
Teaching is another of Julie's passions. Nothing is more rewarding to her than to watch
someone come alive to quilting. She travels to quilt clubs and quilt shops to share her techniques and
talents.
Julie belongs to two local quilt clubs; Loon Country Quilters and The Over-The-Hill
Quilters, her state organization, Minnesota Quilters, and two international organizations; International Quilt
Association and American Quilters Society.
"Let your imagination expand your world and your quilting."

Awards
Julie's first competition quilt, Inspiration, has taken 3 awards in its first summer of competition. It was
awarded the Best of Show at the 2004 Itasca County Fair; Second place in the East Ottertail Historical Society
Show in Perham, MN; Second place in its division at Quilting on the Waterfront in Duluth, MN. Inspiration
was constructed using the method taught in the book, Seams Easy.
Classes
MACHINE QUILTING - 3 hours - Students learn easy quilting techniques using the walking foot
and the darning foot. It is fun and brings surprising results from the participants. I use quilts as examples,
demonstrate, and give personalized help. Participants work on a sampler and leave with the knowledge to tackle
their own quilting projects.
SEAMS EASY ASSEMBLY - 3 hours - Participants assemble a simple project using the assembly
technique taught in my book, SEAMS EASY. I give a mini trunk show and a demonstration.
Students work on a small project and learn how to assemble almost any quilt using this technique. Purchase of the book,
SEAMS EASY is required.
VESTMAKING MADE EASY - 6 hours - In the morning, students make a 1-piece vest pattern
which fits THEIR body style. In the afternoon they piece the vest. I use actual vests as examples. Purchase of the
book, VESTMAKING MADE EASY, is required.
Supply lists are sent upon booking of classes.
