Hats off to New Beginnings

Posted on Nov 9, 2004

November 9, 2004     Hats off to New Beginnings

The last three years have been full of new beginnings for this designer. I wanted to sew some soft art for our addition. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I just couldn't find anything that suited our lifestyle and the style of our home. So I made my own - ME AND MY SHADOW. This design launched my business, HUGS & STITCHES. After a year and 11 designs, I attended Quilt Market with Ann Anderson of quiltwomon.com for the first time. Upon returning, after seeing the beautiful quilts, I knew I had to learn to make bed quilts! You can see the area in which I sew. I had to find a method to make my quilts in pieces. And I had to be original! I came up with the idea I teach in my first book, SEAMS EASY. I spent 2 years making quilts, perfecting the process, the presentation, and the instruction. I believe you can do anything if you break it down into manageable steps.

This fall my new book, SEAMS EASY, EASIER METHOD TO ASSEMBLE YOUR QUILT AFTER YOU QUILT IT had it's debut at Fall Market in Houston. I'm really pleased with the acceptance it received. Now, I'm back home and back to the drawing board. I'm working on 3 patterns as well as 2 more books. And along with Eric of Bufflehead web design company we are launching this website.

SEAMS EASY teaches you my assembly method while making an easy tree skirt or easy tablecloth. You can make the tablecloth to be used for any occasion, not just Christmas. Once you learn the technique, you can use this technique to assemble any quilt which has straight lines where you can add a narrow sash (the connecting strip).

My easy line of 11 WEEKENDER WALL QUILTS are easy enough for beginners. They are unique. They bring back the good memories (or the wishes) of us all. They make great inexpensive gifts.

QUILT CLUBS AND QUILT SHOPS--I offer trunk shows and classes to quilt clubs and quilt shops alike. I LOVE to TEACH and to LEARN! Check out the programs page of this website.

I intend to update this newsletter so come back often. I'll be adding hints and tips. I'll post my itinerary so we can visit when I'm in your area.

     Goodby for now, Julie
